Statement Regarding Reversal of Weinstein Conviction

The decision regarding Harvey Weinstein reinforces what we already know through our survey of over 13,000 entertainment workers. We have seen a lack of progress in addressing the power imbalances that allow abuse to occur and that sexual assault continues to be a pervasive problem. Many survivors do not pursue justice because they believe nothing will be done. Today’s decision underscores the urgent need for systemic changes in our institutions - and redoubles our commitment to survivors to push for the policies and systems that will ensure accountability and bring about workplaces free from the behavior that drives the need for these systems in the first place.

Our Mission

We will lead the entertainment industry to a strong and equitable future by defining and implementing best practices that eliminate sexual harassment and bias for all workers, especially marginalized communities, and actively promote a culture of accountability, respect, and equality.

Our Work

The Hollywood Commission works to stop discrimination, harassment and abuse in entertainment. We believe every entertainment worker should be empowered to speak up about misconduct – without fear of retaliation and with the confidence that there will be consequences for perpetrators. To do so, we work with leaders and organizations to change the culture, evolve practices, and measure industry progress on inclusion, harassment and accountability.

Partner Organizations

Our Partner Organizations commit to advancing the mission of the Hollywood Commission and changing the culture of the industry overall by working together with HC and their peers towards our collective goals. The Hollywood Commission’s work does not replace the important internal efforts of our partner organizations but seeks to fill the accountability gaps that persist at the industry level.
